Lord’s Diner south site now serving on plates

The Lord’s Diner on South Hillside in Wichita has transitioned to pre-Covid full service, although it continues to offer a to-go option.

Diner Director Emily Thome said the satellite location at 2825 S. Hillside began serving on dishes and using metal silverware March 1.

“It allows us to serve with a little bit more dignity” she said.

One reason the transition wasn’t made earlier is because the number of volunteers needed dropped off during Covid.

“We need about four extra volunteers nightly at the south location to process dishes and clean them,” she said.

The South Hillside Diner now needs 10 to 12 volunteers nightly using real dishes compared to about the six to eight needed before full-service was reinstated.

The number of patrons at the satellite location is up the last few days to over 200 nightly, she said, an increase from the usual 150 to 200.
