Embracing Apostolic Courage as We Plan for the Future

Bishop Carl A. Kemme

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This is an exciting time in the Diocese of Wichita! Together, we are renewing our commitment to live boldly as missionary disciples. We are finding new ways to strengthen our ministries, enliven our parishes, and witness our Catholic faith across the region. As one family of faith, we seek more fully to embrace our mission “to preach the Gospel to all God’s people and evangelize today’s culture.”

In that same spirit of apostolic courage, we are formally evaluating the possibility of a diocesan-wide campaign to advance and extend our mission. The goals of the campaign would be to provide additional support to Catholic school teachers, develop a youth and family camp, support outreach ministries, and complete the important work on the domes and windows of our Cathedral. In addition, the campaign would offer a Parish Share component to help each parish address immediate or long-term needs that they identify.

This feasibility study will provide us with important insights on how to prioritize these projects, identify campaign leaders and establish a realistic goal if our diocese decides to move forward with a campaign. The diocese has retained the services of the Steier Group, a national Catholic development firm, to conduct the study.

Everyone in our diocese will be asked to share their thoughts regarding these proposed plans by participating in a brief personal interview or by completing a survey. Many have already participated, and I am encouraged by their thoughtful feedback. In the coming weeks, you will hear more about this study – and how you can participate – at your parish. Your input is essential as together we discern and plan for the future of our local Church.

As your shepherd, I am humbled by the remarkable generosity I witness in our Catholic community every day. We are blessed with so many faithful people who give of their time, talents, and financial resources to strengthen our parishes, schools, and ministries. You are true partners in our shared mission, and for that I am grateful.

Please know of my prayers for you and join me in praying for the guidance of the Holy Spirit during this time of discernment. I remain,

Humbly Yours in Christ,
+ The Most Revered Carl A. Kemme, D.D.
