Adoration novena at Blessed Sacrament June 11-19
Speakers each night; begins June 11, ends on Feast of Corpus Christi
The Church of the Blessed Sacrament will host an adoration novena Saturday through Sunday, June 11 through June 19, the feast of Corpus Christi.
Fr. Jacob Carlin, the diocesan master of ceremonies, said a novena is a nine-day prayerful event in anticipation of something extraordinary.
“That’s why the novena has become such a big practice in the Catholic faith,” he said, adding that it takes on a special meaning during this Year of the Eucharist.
Adoration nightly
Eucharistic adoration will be held at 7 p.m. nightly at the church during the novena, except for the final day, Corpus Christi. On that Sunday the Eucharist will be processed beginning at 3 p.m.
Fr. Carlin said a different priest would be preaching about the Eucharist every evening, highlighted with sacred music. Four of the evenings will be bilingual, two in English and Spanish, and two in English and Vietnamese.
“It’s a chance to come all together to wait with eager anticipation for Corpus Christi,” Fr. Carlin said, “to prolong that celebration during this year the Eucharist, to preach more deeply about the Eucharist, and to hear sacred music maybe we don’t hear very often.”
Not only will those attending learn more about the Eucharist, he said, their devotion to the sacrament will be strengthened. “We’ve got some great priests coming to preach about the Eucharistic mystery.”
Novena to be streamed
The Corpus Christi Novena will be streamed from the Church of the Blessed Sacrament at BlessedSacramentWichita.com.
