Salt + Light’s softball season is nearly over. It won’t be the hits or home runs that will be remembered, though, it will be the friendships made and the relationships nurtured.

Heidi Jirak, coordinator for Prayer and Action, College and Young Adult Ministry, said those involved in Wichita Catholic Young Adults have been playing mixed league playing softball for years. She said the teams kicked off the season with an inspirational and instructional Wichita Wind Surge baseball game on June 1.

Four teams assembled from 87 participants played from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Fridays at Plainview Park in Wichita since June 7. They will put away their mitts and bats after the Aug. 9 games.

“We are going to have a cookout on that last evening,” Jirak said. “It’s open to the public for a free-will donation.”

Salt + Light is giving its members a few months’ rest before indoor sand volleyball begins, she said. Volleyball is played at a venue in Derby.

The next non-athletic event, Jirak said, will be a Theology on Tap, from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at First Man Brewery in Derby. Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers, a popular speaker and EWTN radio host, will be the speaker. His topic will be “My Flesh for the Life of the World: The Eucharist.”

Deacon Harold will also speak at the Midwest Catholic Family Conference on Aug. 2-4, and at Men’s Night Sunday, Aug. 4, at St. Mary Church in Derby.
