Beneficiary Designations
One of the easiest methods for making a planned gift, is to name the diocese as a beneficiary on existing retirement plans, bank accounts (payable on death or transfer on death), life insurance policies, annuities, or donor-advised funds. Simply contact your policy/account administrator to request a change-of-beneficiary form and submit this back to them to establish your gift.

Gifts in your Will/Trust
A gift in your will or trust is an excellent way to support your parish, school or any ministry within the diocese. You can make a specific gift amount in your will, name a percentage, or make the diocese a beneficiary of the remainder of your estate.

Appreciated Securities
Donating appreciated securities, including stocks or bonds, is an easy and tax-effective way for you to make gift. Gifts of appreciated securities are most often used to support the diocese when you have a desire to make a charitable contribution and avoid capital gains tax.

Charitable Gift Annuity
A gift annuity is an attractive way for you to make a gift to the diocese, all while receiving fixed payments for the rest of your life. Your gift allows for a tax deduction and a portion of your annual annuity is tax-free. Upon your passing, the diocese would receive the remainder of the funds.

Retirement Assets
Donating part or all of your unused retirement assets, such as your IRA, 401(k), 403(b), pension or other tax-deferred plan, is an excellent way to make a gift to the diocese. To gift your retirement assets, you will need to contact your retirement plan administrator and complete a beneficiary designation form. When you designate the Catholic Diocese of Wichita as a beneficiary, we will receive the full value of your gift because your retirement assets will not be taxed at your death. In turn, your estate will also benefit from an estate tax charitable deduction for the gift.

If you are at least 70 ½ years old, another commonly used option to make a gift to charity is through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your IRA. A QCD allows you to make direct transfer of up to $105,000 per year from your IRA to the diocese. Because the diocese is tax exempt, there is no tax paid on the transfer. You can give from pre-tax assets and the gift is not reported as taxable income. Simply contact your IRA administrator and request a “Qualified Charitable Distribution” from your IRA, and provide them with the name and address of the diocesan entity you wish to support.

Life Insurance
There are a number of options when considering a gift of life insurance. An easy way to accomplish charitable giving is to name the diocese as the beneficiary of your life insurance. If you own a life insurance policy that is no longer needed for its intended purpose, you may gift that insurance policy and receive immediate benefits. A third option is to create a new life insurance policy, name the diocese as the sole beneficiary and give ownership of the policy to the diocese. You may receive an income tax deduction for your gift. If the policy is not paid in full, you can send a donation to the diocese for the amount of the premium each year and may receive an annual income tax deduction for each of those gifts. Real Estate
Donating appreciated real estate, such as a home, vacation property, undeveloped land, farmland, ranch or commercial property can make a great gift to the diocese. Upon approval and acceptance by the diocese, your property may be gifted by signing a deed transferring ownership. Real Estate Gift Acceptance Policy

Donor-Advised Fund
A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) provides a simple, reliable, and effective way to accomplish your charitable giving. A DAF is like having your own foundation; you can establish a DAF today and recommend grants to the qualified charities you want to support now or in the future. You may obtain an immediate tax deduction for each charitable contribution you make to the DAF. The fund is invested in a socially responsible manner. One example of when a DAF works well is when you receive a large bonus or other significant income near the end of the year and there is not time to decide which charities to support. The funds can be used to establish a DAF (or add to an existing DAF) and then you can recommend grants to qualified charities at a later time when you are ready to make those decisions.
