The Catholic Diocese of Wichita is seeking an exceptional individual to serve as our Coordinator of St Dismas Ministry to the Incarcerated. This is a ministry position with some administrative duties. This individual serves as the primary liaison between detention and correctional facilities staff and Catholic volunteers in order to establish and maintain Catholic worship, programming and materials for all the incarcerated in the Diocese of Wichita. The Coordinator is also responsible for facilitating the Mentoring program and the Ministry to Incarcerated Juveniles. Prison Ministry in the Diocese of Wichita is a pastoral care ministry whereby the Christian Community shares in the healing ministry of Christ. It is a ministry of presence and witness.
Position Requirements:
• Practicing Catholic in good standing and an active steward in one’s parish
• Education in the area of Catholic doctrine and church regulations, with the ability to explain Catholic Social teaching and Church regulations
• Experience in some aspect of pastoral ministry preferred
• Willingness to teach to both volunteers and those incarcerated
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work within a team environment
• Ability to supervise, train, evaluate, coordinate and delegate volunteers
• Ability to network and coordinate activities with community partners dedicated to working with prisoners, ex-offenders, their families and their victims
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours
