“Today, I am encouraged by the statement of Archbishop Jose H. Gomez, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, in desiring to work with President Biden and his administration. We are all aware that in every administration, there are areas of alignment with Catholic moral principles and teachings but also areas of objective and serious disagreement. We who are bishops and pastors of the flock of Christ have the responsibility to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in its entirety, which calls us to advocate for the good of all citizens, including the unborn, the immigrant, the victims of racism, the poor, the elderly, the imprisoned, and indeed all who live on the margins of society. All of us as Catholics have the moral obligation to voice our support when these teachings are evident in public policy and our objection when they are not. I invite all for whom I serve as bishop of the Diocese of Wichita and indeed all people of goodwill to join me in prayer at this critical time, that God will bless and protect this great country and grant us the justice and peace we desire. Together and throughout this year, let us continue to call upon St. Joseph, the Just One, for his intercession on our behalf.” – Bishop Carl A. Kemme
