Sr. Loretta Thome, ASC Scholarship Fund
The Sister Loretta Thome, ASC Scholarship provides financial assistance to two graduating seniors from Bishop Carroll Catholic High School, Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School, or a Catholic parishioner graduating from Garden Plain or Andale high schools. In college, applicants must plan to study accounting, business, math, science, library science, computer science, elementary or secondary education, nursing or pre-med. The scholarship is $1,000 per semester and following initial award, is renewable for up to nine consecutive semesters, provided the recipient meets renewal requirements. The award is valid only for the fall and spring semesters, with a maximum award amount of $2,000 per school year.
Criteria: Applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Graduating senior from Bishop Carroll, Kapaun Mt. Carmel, or a Catholic parishioner from Garden Plain High School or Andale High School
2. While in high school, student has taken:
- Three years of math, reaching the level of pre-calculus or above;
- Three years of science that includes at least two of the following: biology, chemistry, physics, anatomy, or physiology; and
- Two years of the same foreign language.
3. ACT Score of 23 or higher or a SAT score of 1070
4. GPA of 3.0
5. Plans to attend a four-year college taking no less than 15 hours per semester
6. Has worked or volunteered outside of the school day
7. Is an American citizen or a legal resident of the United States.
Application Guidelines: To apply, students must submit the following:
1. A completed scholarship application form.
2. A high school transcript showing GPA, and SAT or ACT scores.
3. Three letters of recommendation. One from a teacher, one from a counselor, and one from an employer/community service organization sponsor.
Renewal Requirements: To renew the scholarship, recipients must:
1. Maintain at least 15 credit hours per semester;
2. Maintain a cumulative GPA in college of at least 2.75;
3. Demonstrate progress towards a degree in accounting, business, math, science, library science, computer science, elementary or secondary education, nursing or pre-med; and
4. Submit grades of the previous semester, and their course schedule for the next semester. Recipients must submit all required materials to [email protected] within 30 days of the semester concluding. Failure to provide may result in the scholarship being revoked.
Deadlines and Award Details:
Scholarship applications open January 1, 2026 and are due by March 1, 2026.
Scholarship recipients will be notified by April 1, 2026. The scholarship award will be paid directly to the school and can be used for tuition and fees.
Scholarship Selection:
The Catholic Diocese of Wichita will administer the scholarship and make the award based on the recommendation of the diocesan scholarship selection committee.
