Sorrowful Mother Nursing Scholarship
The Sorrowful Mother Nursing Scholarship provides scholarship support to qualifying students attending Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas. The scholarship covers all tuition, books, and student fees and will be awarded every four years. Award amount per academic year is anticipated at $10,000 – $12,000. The scholarship is intended to support a student for the entire duration of their BSN degree program.
Criteria: Applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduate of a Catholic High School in the Diocese of Wichita who will attend Pittsburg State University.
2. Students must be planning to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
3. Minimum GPA of 3.00 at the time of application.
4. Recipient must meet and maintain the academic eligibility criteria determined by their college.
Application Guidelines: To apply, students must submit the following:
1. A completed scholarship application form.
2. A transcript showing high school GPA and class rank.
3. A letter of recommendation from a parish pastor and high school teacher.
Renewal Requirements: To renew the scholarship, recipients must:
1. The scholarship is renewable annually for up to a total of four (4) years.
2. Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0;
3. Submit transcripts and enrollment information annually for renewal. Recipient must submit all required materials to [email protected] within 30 days of the semester concluding. Failure to provide may result in the scholarship being revoked.
Deadlines and Award Details:
Scholarship applications open January 1, 2026, and are due by March 1, 2026.
Scholarship recipients will be notified by April 1, 2026. The scholarship award will be paid directly to Pittsburg State University.
Scholarship Selection:
The Catholic Diocese of Wichita will administer the scholarship and make the award based on the recommendation of the diocesan scholarship selection committee.
