Sister Ida Martin dies on Easter
Sister Ida Martin died on Easter Sunday, April 12. Her wake service was held on Wednesday, April 15, and the Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for her on Thursday, April 16. She is buried in the Mount St. Mary Convent Cemetery in Wichita.
Ida Cornelia Martin was born May 11, 1915 in Haviland. On Sept. 6, 1931, Ida came to Mount St. Mary Convent. Six months later, on March 19, 1932 she was received into the novitiate and given the name Sister Mary Clarence.
Ida’s ministry as an educator began in 1934 at St. Francis School in St. Paul. For the next 20 years she taught at St. Mary, Pittsburg, Blessed Sacrament, Wichita, Sacred Heart, Arkansas City, where she served as principal, St. Patrick, Parsons. Sister taught junior high students at Holy Name, Coffeyville, and Immaculate Conception, Claflin.
After earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree, she taught high school home economics at St. Patrick High School, Parsons, St. Paul High School, St. Paul, and St. Teresa High School in Hutchinson. She also taught at McGuinness High School in Oklahoma City.

Sr. Julius Marie, missionary to Japan, dies

This is an undated photo of Sr. Julius Marie while she was a missionary in Japan working with children with handicaps. Sister helped establish a regional community in Kyoto.

Congregation of St. Joseph Sister Julius Marie Burger died Friday, Feb. 20. She was 82 years old.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Sister Julius Marie on Monday, Feb. 23. Her remains were interred in the Mount St. Mary Convent Cemetery in Wichita.

School Sister of St. Francis Margaret Younger dies Feb. 11 in Wisconsin

School Sister of St. Francis Margaret Younger died Feb. 11, at St. Joseph Convent in Campbellsport, Wisc. Formerly known at Sr. Agnelda, she served in Hutchinson for nine years.
Sister was born Nov. 2, 1914 in Marienthal. She was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis June 12, 1930, and made first profession of vows Aug. 21, 1932 and final vows Aug. 11, 1938.
Sister Margaret lived her religious ministry as a homemaker, baker, and rosary maker in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, and South Dakota. In the Diocese of Wichita, Sister Margaret served as a homemaker in Hutchinson from 1979 to 1981, and served in the school lunch program at St. Theresa School, Hutchinson, from 1981 to 1988.
A wake and Funeral Mass took place on Feb. 18, at St. Joseph Convent in Campbellsport, Wisc.

Sister Augusta Pfannenstiel dies Jan. 8

Sister Augusta Pfannenstiel died Thursday afternoon, Jan. 8, at the ASC Wichita Center in Wichita. She was 88 and a professed Adorer of the Blood of Christ for 71 years.
Sister Augusta’s body was welcomed at the Wichita Center on Sunday, Jan. 11. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, Jan. 12, in the Chapel of Our Lady of the New Covenant with Father Tom Welk as presider and homilist. Burial in the community cemetery followed.

Sister Charlotte Rohr, 93, died Monday, Jan. 26, at the Wichita Center. She had been an Adorer of the Blood of Christ for 77 years.
The Liturgy of Resurrection was celebrated Thursday, Jan. 29, in the Chapel of Our Lady of the New Covenant with Father Tom Welk as presider and homilist. Burial in the community cemetery followed.
