Father John (Dominic) Wojciechowsk

i Father Wojciechowski was born on February 3, 1871 at Margonin, Province of Posen, Prussia (now Poland again). After coming to the United States he studied at SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary, Detroit (now in Orchard Lake), MI and at Kenrick Seminary, St. Louis, MO. Archbishop John Kain of St. Louis ordained him at Kenrick for the Diocese of Wichita on June 14, 1902. His first brief assignment was to Florence and then to Neodesha from 1902 to 1916 where he built the present church. St. Barbara Parish, Chicopee and St. Philip Neri Parish, Franklin, where Father Dominic was the first pastor, was his last assignment. He died at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Pittsburg on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1918 after contracting Spanish influenza. Father Suwalski of Hurrah, OK was the celebrant of his funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Parish in Pittsburg and Bishop Hennessy had the absolution. Fr. Dominic was buried in Calvary Cemetery in Pittsburg.
