Father Patrick Garrity

Father Garrity was born in County Cavan, Ireland, and studied for the priesthood at St. Patrick’s Seminary in Carlow, Ireland. “He was ordained in 1913 for the Diocese of Middlesbrough, England, and served for some time at Leeds, England.” (The Catholic Advance, June 28, 1930) He came to the United States in 1930 and served as chaplain at St. Mary’s Hospital in Winfield and at Mt. St. Mary’s Convent in Wichita. His funeral was celebrated by Father Thomas Koegan, a cousin of Fr. Garrity from Salina, KS, in St. Mary’s Cathedral in Wichita. He was buried in Calvary Cemetery in Wichita.
