More than 600 people set to join the Church

More than 250 men and women took an important step in accepting the Father’s invitation to become his adopted sons and daughters and to strive to live the Catholic faith when their names were inscribed in the book of the elect. Moreover, the same occasion saw 313 children of the Father profess plans to strengthen their ties to the Lord through a more visible and direct connection with his Church.

That is what happened on the morning of Saturday, Feb. 21 at Wichita’s Church of the Magdalen. During the Rite of Election of Catechumens, 267 unbaptized people seeking full incorporation into the Catholic Church through the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and Holy Eucharist, announced their intentions to receive those sacraments at the Easter Vigil on April 4. 

Then, during the Rite Calling the Candidates to Continuing Conversion, 313 baptized Christians who have been preparing to receive the sacraments of confirmation and Holy Eucharist  affirmed their shared intent to enter into full union with the Church. 

Through the rites, the Church formally ratifies the catechumens’ or candidates’ readiness for the sacraments of initiation, and the candidates’ readiness to be received into full communion in the Church.

Illness and other factors prevented some catechumens and candidates from attending the rites, such that the total number of those scheduled to enter the Catholic Church in the Catholic Diocese of Wichita this spring are 274 catechumens and 354 candidates. What follows is a list of those names who were submitted to the Catholic Advance before press time that are scheduled to be received into the Church on Holy Saturday:
