An Invitation to Become a Mentor Couple

We all know the many challenges facing couples in our day and age. This makes it vital that they be given the accompaniment and support to be successful in marriage from the very beginning. Other couples should act as role models of Christian marriage for engaged couples. We are looking for couples who would be mentors, that is, to accompany and walk alongside other couples during their engagement and first year of marriage.
Becoming a mentor couple will provide a service that is bound to have great impact to your parish community. Moreover, studies show that mentoring is one of the most effective ways to sustain and enrich your own marriage and keep it vibrant, healthy and fully alive.
Your parish is forming a team of exemplary couples, who either in a group setting, and/or through a "couple-to-couple" approach, can help engaged couples evaluate and develop a stronger faith and the skills needed for married life. We invite you to consider joining a great team of mentor couples in this most exciting endeavor for the Diocese of Wichita.

Who should be a Mentor Couple?

A great way to discern if you should be a mentor couple is to see how you would answer the following questions:

  • - Do you have a desire to accompany, support and enrich the lives of other couples?
  • - Are you both striving to live your vocation to marriage and family?
  • - Are you registered parishioners, and active faithful stewards in the parish?
  • - Have you been married at least five years?
  • - Do both of you have a shared prayer life?
  • - Will you make the time and commitment necessary to work with other couples?

If you have answered YES to the questions above, you are a great candidate to be a mentor couple.

The role of the Mentor Couple is to be an authentic witness to the truth and beauty of the Church’s teaching on marriage and family. This personal encounter will help couples deepen their faith, and improve particular areas of growth. Ultimately, the mentor couple is there to help the engaged and newly married fall more in love with God and with each other.

Mentor couples, with their personal examples and life journey, are there to assist the engaged and newly married. They play a key role within a comprehensive marriage preparation process.

Formation Weekends

The purpose of this formation is to equip participating couples with a deeper understanding of the sacrament of marriage and a better ability to convey to other couples particular life skills essential for a healthy and happy marriage.

The weekends start on Saturday 8:00 a.m.– 5:00 p.m. and continue on Sunday 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Spiritual Life Center (7100 E 45th St., Bel Aire, KS 67226). Lunch is included on Saturdays. Light snacks, coffee and water will be served during the sessions.

A good will donation will be asked to cover the costs of the formation. Most importantly, we are looking for couples willing to invest time and energy to be better prepared to accompany other couples. Child care is not provided.
