KMC’s old chapel space now host to classrooms

The space formally used to worship Our Lord at Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School is now being used to raise minds to the Lord.

Rob Knapp, KMC’s president, said a basement was dug underneath the science and technology wing when it was constructed in 2002.

“We had been using that as a temporary chapel space, “ he said, “And since the new chapel has been opened, we no longer need that temporary chapel space.”

The vision was always to finish that space with new classrooms, Knapp said, “not necessarily because our enrollment got larger, but our curriculum is so much more diverse than it has ever been.”

So, the space was finished out with eight classrooms and some storage space, he said.

“We designed the rooms to be fairly generic so they could be used for any subject matter, but we did move our engineering program down there, so we have one room specifically designed to meet the needs of the engineering program, and one room that was specifically designed to meet the needs of our computer science program.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony and general blessing was held internally for the faculty and staff of Kapaun Mt. Carmel on Aug. 9, during their in-service meetings leading up to the start of the new school year.
