2015 November College Age Ministry Highlights

This month, join us in celebrating the Year of Fr. Kapaun as Bishop Kemme travels to Rome on November 9 to present the positio opening the cause for his beatification.

Are you Catholic? Are you attending college in Kansas? If yes to both questions then KNOCK 2016 featuring Dr. Ken Howell is for you! Register by December 15 for the early bird rate for the Kansas Catholic College Convocation (KCCSC) taking place February 5-7, 2016 at Prairie Star Ranch in Williamsburg, KS. 

PRAY
November 2-11 join with people throughout the diocese in a novena for the beatification of Fr. Kapaun. You can find the novena prayer, details about the Year of Fr. Kapaun and more here.

As you look forward to the Thanksgiving Break, remember to keep an attitude of gratitude! Here is a Prayer of Thanksgiving for college students.

SERVE
The Project Freedom Team that gives chastity retreats in parishes throughout the diocese is still looking for a few more female team members. If you are interested in this service opportunity please contact Raschelle. You could really make the difference in the life of a middle schooler!

Thinking about serving the Church next summer? Totus Tuus teacher and camp counselor applications will be online beginning November 2. Check the Office of Faith Formation website for these forms and then pray about it!

The St. Paul Catholic Student Center at WSU is conducting a food drive during November. Help them out if you can. (get it?)

Save the Date! December 20, 2015 - Our diocesan-wide winter gathering for college students will be an Advent/Christmas Party at St. Vincent de Paul Parish from 6-11 pm. The evening will include dinner, adoration with confessions, an ugly Christmas sweater contest, door prizes and more! And it's FREE!

If you are within driving distance of Wichita, you are invited to the Sarah Kroger Concert at Newman University on November 4, 2015. The concert begins at 7:30 pm and will be followed by Mass and a reception. This event is FREE!

2015 October College Age Ministry Highlights

It's October! Here are are several ways to grow in your faith this month:

GROW
1) Read Pope Francis' latest encyclical Laudato Si (On Care For Our Common Home) or at least read the 2-minute summary. You can also check out some interesting blogs about why we should even care about the environment.
WHAT YOU CAN DO: You can take the Pledge of St. Francis (in honor of his feast day on Oct 4) or you can help create a creation c
are group at your school or work.

2) Pope Francis' prayer intention for October is“That human trafficking, the modern form of slavery, may be eradicated”.
WHAT YOU CAN DO: The USCCB, CSJ, and
WSU all have programs dedicated to stopping human trafficking.

PRAY
1) October is the month of the rosary. If you are not familiar with the rosary or If you are already a daily rosary pray-er and want to introduce this devotional to a friend, you can find everything you need right here.

2) Struggling with the formation of a consistent prayer life? You may find Jim Beckman's book God, Help Me: How to Grow in Prayer helpful. It is refreshingly honest!

3) Take just 30 minutes to watch Dr. Tim Gray discuss prayer in "Casting Into the Deep: Five Steps to Transforming Your Prayer Life"

SERVE
Here is a fun way to log some volunteer hours before the end of the semester:

DiRT (Diocesan Retreat Team) is a group of college students and young adults who offer 4.5 hour retreats, on the weekends, for high school students preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation.  The theme of the retreat is the person of the Holy Spirit and Reconciliation. We are looking for help leading small groups, sharing personal testimonies, and giving the main retreat talks.
