Sunday Vespers and Eucharistic Adoration
Sunday Vespers and Eucharistic Adoration
February 22, 2026 - March 29, 2026
4:00pm (02/22) - (03/29)Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
430 N Broadway
Wichita, KS 67202
During Lent, the faithful of the Diocese of Wichita are invited to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception each Sunday at 4:00 p.m. for a Holy Hour with Exposition and Benediction and Vespers (Evening Prayer). This Sunday devotion offers a prayerful way to sanctify the Lord’s Day and to enter more deeply into the Church’s public prayer during the penitential season.
The series will be held each Sunday during Lent, beginning February 22, 2026 (the First Sunday of Lent) and concluding on Palm Sunday, March 29, 2026.
This invitation reflects not only a local Lenten practice, but a clear encouragement of the Second Vatican Council itself. Sacrosanctum Concilium teaches that pastors should ensure “the chief hours, especially Vespers,” are celebrated in common in church on Sundays, and it encourages the laity to pray the Divine Office with priests, among themselves, or even individually (SC 100). In the same spirit, Pope Leo XIV has recently urged Catholics to renew their reception of Vatican II by returning to the Council’s texts and reflecting on them directly—an invitation well matched to the Church’s own daily prayer, where the Council’s vision is lived rather than merely discussed.
