Join Bishop Kemme for Mass of Repentance and Healing on April 28
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Bishop Carl Kemme invites the faithful to join him at a Mass of Repentance and Healing for sins of abuse on April 28 at 10:00 AM at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Wichita.
The Church recognizes that the wounds caused by sexual abuse of children and vulnerable persons, especially by members of the clergy, are very deep and must be acknowledged and addressed. We have an obligation to repent and pray for healing for these precious members of the Body of Christ. Through the Mass of Repentance and Healing, we pray that those who have suffered abuse may experience God’s profound love for them and God’s healing powers.
Members of the clergy are called to represent Christ in our church and community. We ask for forgiveness for any sexual abuse ever committed by members of the clergy. We also ask for prayers that all priests be men of integrity, honesty, and purity.
Throughout the Gospel, Christ calls upon His followers to care for the most vulnerable among us, especially children. We are all part of a larger culture of protection and healing within the church. As members of this Catholic culture of life, we value the prevention of abuse and the support of those who have been abused. Each one of us can play an important role in strengthening this culture. We can also play a role in victim outreach by offering support, compassion, and prayers to those close to us who have been abused.
