Two summer directors for Camp Totus Tuus 2019
By Veronica Hill

Camp Totus Tuus will have double the leadership this summer.
Becky Costello and Jacob Grabendike will serve as the 2019 Camp Totus Tuus directors.
Both Costello and Grabendike are no strangers to Totus Tuus. They have both demonstrated tremendous leadership as previous missionaries.
Grabendike’s first summer with Totus Tuus began just after he graduated from Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School in Wichita in 2016. He taught parish Totus Tuus for two summers and served as a counselor in 2018. This coming summer will be his fourth. He is currently a student at Wichita State University studying business marketing.
“The most important thing about Totus Tuus is providing a place to allow relationships between campers to form,” Grabendike said. “While at the same time allowing the campers to form that friendship with God by looking at the way counselors interact with each other and other campers.”
Costello, a Bishop Carroll Catholic High School alumna, taught one summer of parish Totus Tuus for the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, Missouri, and was a Camp Totus Tuus counselor in 2018. She currently studies kinesiology and pre-physical therapy at Kansas State University.
“I think God is calling me to serve as a director because after last summer ended, I got the feeling that I wasn’t done with it, that I still had more to do, more to give to camp,” Costello said. “I grew so much at camp and I would love the opportunity to give more to the camp that gave me a relationship with God.”
Costello and Grabendike will work together to oversee a team of 24 camp counselors. The pair will report directly to the coordinator for Totus Tuus and will spend the summer growing in leadership, teamwork and professionalism.
Camp Totus Tuus has been bursting at the seams in its current facility. In 2018, the program increased the counselor staff to provide a better experience for campers and counselors alike. The response has been overwhelmingly positive from staff members, campers and parents. Camp is open to kids in grades 5 through 12.
Hill is program coordinator for Totus Tuus.
