Parish Pastoral Council formation - What about these other Councils?

The finance council does not articulate the mission or set pastoral priorities for the parish. Instead, it is charged with providing sound financial advice to the pastor. The finance council assists the pastor in formulating and managing the parish budget.

The stewardship council gratefully recognizes and receives the gifts of the parishioners, and then creates opportunities for parishioners to share them with God and neighbor.

Remember that a parish pastoral council does three things:

1. Prayerfully discerns parish needs;

2. Recommends pastoral priorities;

3. Empowers people to participate in the mission of Christ.

The parish pastoral council would focus on crafting the parish mission, identifying its’ needs and prioritizing them (#1 & 2). It would then direct the stewardship council to inspire and invite parishioners to participate in responding to those needs (#3).
