St. Joseph the Worker Award-Mary Ann Grubiak

St. Joseph the Worker Award

Mary Ann Grubiak of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School is the 2016 recipient of the St. Joseph the Worker Award.

While school aide, latchkey worker, and lunchroom aide all describe Mrs. Grubiak’s duties, it is religious virtue and daily work ethic that define her service.  She began her work at St. Thomas Aquinas as an aide to a child with special needs for six years.

In the lunchroom, she acknowledges the child who has a birthday or a new baby brother or sister.  She redirects misbehavior with dignity.  She adorns the lunch room with religious symbols such as the advent wreath.  She attends the children’s First Communion or prays the rosary with them.

As a latchkey worker she directs the Homework Club.  She assists students with homework.  She tutors them.  She lines up Kapaun Mt. Carmel students to help her.  No job is too marginal for her.  She so fits the image of St. Joseph: a humble, compassionate, and faithful servant.
