Catechist training offers creative ways to share the faith

By Heather Welch
After a successful first year, Live and Local, a collaborative effort sponsored by the Office of Religious Education and Youth and Young Adult Ministries, is back this fall with sessions set to inspire those who teach and share the faith.
The theme for 2009 is Gratitude in Relationship to Stewardship. The goal of the project is to equip adults responsible for faith formation of children and teens with creative ideas and concepts that can be easily implemented in their ministry. It also provides a way for catechists and youth ministry volunteers to network within their own parishes and with others in their geographical area.
“The sessions are filled with tips, tricks and resources,” said Shelly Bole, program coordinator. “Everything that is covered can be adapted to different parishes and age groups.”
Adult youth ministry leaders are welcome, as well as catechists for grades one through 12, confirmation catechists, D/CREs, mission trip leaders, Totus Tuus coordinators, and clergy.
“One session I am really excited about is called Beyond Facebook,” said Bole. “There are so many ways to share the Faith, and in Live and Local we have time to pray, learn, share and grow.”
