Catholic apologist John Martignoni to speak at St. James in Augusta Sept. 19
St. James Catholic Church in Augusta is hosting “An Evening with John Martignoni,” nationally known apologetics speaker and defender of the Scriptural foundations of the Catholic faith on Saturday, Sept. 19.
The evening begins with Mass at 6 p.m., followed by a social time with light snacks and then the presentation by John Martignoni. Mr. Martignoni is the founder of the Bible Christian Society, a non-profit organization offering free apologetics resources for Catholics.
The cost for the evening is $10 per person or $15 a couple. Advanced reservations are encouraged by calling St. James parishioner Kathy Martinez at (316) 734-8050.

St. Bridget, Scammon, preparing for its centennial celebration on Oct. 24-25
St. Bridget Catholic Church, Scammon, is preparing for its centennial Oct. 24 and 25.
The present church was designed by G. J. Munn of Pittsburg and was modeled after the Holy Cross Chapel at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. Its gothic structure is built of Cherryvale pressed red brick with Carthage rock facings and has a steeple which extends to 105 feet above ground level.
Additions and changes are being made to the church. A shrine to Our Lady of Fatima is under construction.
And a crane is now onsite to assist with the installation of a new roof for the church.

Andover parish’s annual fundraiser for Lord’s Diner planned for Oct. 17
Local celebrities are taking part in St. Vincent de Paul Parish’s annual fundraiser Oct. 17 for The Lord’s Diner by playing parts in a comedy.
Columnist Bonnie Bing, television personality Sierra Scott, and comedian Bucky Walters will be a part of the comedy, “Phantom at the Ville,” to be presented in The Ville, SVDP’s parish hall in Andover.
“We have an all-star cast!” said Michele Carlini, a parishioner and one of the organizers.
The comedy was written by three of the women who have been on the fundraiser committee since it began three years ago, she said.
Following the theme of this year’s event, 30 masks have been decorated by local artists to be sold outright or auctioned at the fundraiser.
Only 250 tickets are sold for the entire event. They are available after Masses at St. Vincent de Paul Church or by calling Linda Johnson at (316) 733-1716.

“One hundred percent of the proceeds from the event go to The Lord’s Diner,” Carlini added.

Card shower for Dr. Cvetkovich planned
A card shower is planned for Dr. Frank Cvetkovich, a longtime member of St. Anne Parish, Wichita. He will be 95 years old on Sept. 23 this year.

Correction to St. Joseph Parish article
The last edition of the Catholic Advance made two errors regarding construction at St. Joseph Parish, McPherson.
The adoration chapel and bell tower addition will take place in the first phase of construction, not the second.
The new kitchen will be a smaller prep-kitchen used mainly to prepare the hot lunches served to students. The current kitchen will remain as the main, full-service kitchen for the parish.

Health fair Sept. 19 at St. Margaret Mary
WICHITA – The St. Margaret Mary Parish Nursing Ministry will sponsor a Fall Health Fair from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 19, in the Community Room, 2635 S. Pattie.
Over 30 booths are anticipated. Sports physicals will be offered for $25. Other booths include blood glucose and blood pressure checks, dental checks, bone density checks, and many others.

Garage sale proceeds to buy new B.C. sign
WICHITA – The Eagle Scout Garage Sale held Saturday, Aug. 22, at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School was a success.
The sale, with the support of the high school, raised enough money to pay for a new sign on the bleachers at the school’s stadium.

Bible Study at SFA begins Sept. 13
A 10-week adult Bible study class will offered at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Wichita, beginning Sept. 13.
Participants have a choice of attending on Sunday mornings, or Wednesday or Thursday evenings.

1959 class from St. Joe, Wichita, hosting reunion Oct. 17
The 1959 8th grade class of St. Joseph Catholic Grade School, Wichita, is hosting a reunion beginning at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, in the St. Joseph Parish Activity Center.  Lunch will be served.

St. Anne plans fall arts and crafts fair Oct. 25
WICHITA – St. Anne Parish is resurrecting its arts and crafts fair this fall. The parish is planning a fair on Sunday, Oct. 25, in connection with the parish's annual Fall Dinner.

ANDOVER – Remembering Church, a series designed to invite those who have been away from the church to consider returning to the faith, will begin Oct. 8 at St. Vincent de Paul Parish.
