History of Totus Tuus

- Bernard X. Gorges, as a seminarian for the Diocese of Wichita, teaches a catechetical summer program to elementary grade students at St. Michael’s Parish in Girard, KS, in the summer of 1987.
- To keep busy during the summers of 1988-1990, Gorges accepts calls to teach at 15 different parishes in Southeast Kansas and hires college students to assist him.
- In 1991, two teams of four college students are formed to meet the demand for the Summer Catechetical Program, as it was then known.
- In 1993, the program increases to four teams and expands services into parishes in the Diocese of Dodge City, Kansas. The program informally begins to be called Totus Tuus.
- By 1995, the Totus Tuus program has spread to parishes in the Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kansas, and the Diocese of Salina, Kansas. The increased need leads to the formation of six teams of four college students.
- In 1996, Totus Tuus is invited into the Archdiocese of Omaha, Nebraska. It also begins a Summer Camp program which serves 85 youth.

- On September 19, 1996, Articles of Incorporation are drawn making TOTUS TUUS, Inc. a separate 501c Non-Profit Corporate entity of Kansas.
- In September 1997, one year later, the first Board of Directors for TOTUS TUUS, Inc. is appointed.
- By 1997, the program includes nine teams and parishes are served in Oklahoma and even in the Diocese of Savannah, Georgia, through invitation of its vocation director. Camp Totus Tuus serves 120 youth.
- In 1998, 10 teams of 4 college students serve 52 parish sites. Of this number, 21 sites (37 parishes) are in the Diocese of Wichita, 13 sites (14 parishes) in the Diocese of Dodge City, and 18 sites in other dioceses. Camp Totus Tuus serves 150 youth.
- In 1999, 11 teams of 4 college students serve 58 sites. Of this number, there are 22 sites (39 parishes) in the Diocese of Wichita, 8 sites (10 parishes) in the Diocese of Dodge City, 8 parishes in the Diocese of Salina, 5 sites (8 parishes) in the Archdiocese of Kansas City, and 15 sites (approx. 22 parishes) outside of the state of Kansas (Nebraska, Oklahoma and Georgia). Camp Totus Tuus serves 197 youth.
- In 2000, Totus Tuus teams serve 69 sites. Of this number, there are 23 sites (41 parishes) in the Diocese of Wichita, 10 sites (12 parishes) in the Diocese of Dodge City, 4 parishes in the Diocese of Salina, 7 sites (10 parishes) in the Archdiocese of Kansas City, and 25 sites outside of the state of Kansas (Nebraska, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Georgia). The Archdiocese of Denver founds its own Totus Tuus of Denver with the formation of two teams. Camp Totus Tuus serves 254 youth.
- In 2001, Fr. Gorges becomes Pastor at Holy Name in Winfield, KS. Dioceses desiring the program form their own offices to oversee it. Totus Tuus of Wichita is placed under various diocesan offices.

- In 2005, by request of Bishop Jackels, Totus Tuus becomes its own diocesan office. Fr. Gorges is appointed the director of Totus Tuus of Wichita. 4 teams serve 19 sites. Camp Totus Tuus serves 107 youth.
- In 2006, 5 teams serve 32 sites. Camp Totus Tuus serves 214 youth.
- In 2007, 6 teams serve 34 sites. Camp Totus Tuus serves 436 youth.
- In 2008, 6 teams serve 35 sites. Camp Totus Tuus serves 577 youth.
- In 2009, 5 teams serve 29 sites. Camp Totus Tuus serves 440 youth.
- In 2010, 6 teams serve 34 sites. Camp Totus Tuus serves 418 youth.
