The Need

Through its research and consultations with local and national organizations, The Lord's Diner has come to recognize that the face of hunger and homelessness is changing across America ... and Wichita is no exception.
During the 1990's the Wichita community experienced a shift in the homeless population from individuals to families.
Poverty and food insecurity rates are closely linked. In Kansas, the unemployment rate rose from 3.9% in 2000 to 5.2% in 2003.
Food insecure households make up 11.3% of those in the state.
The state ranks 12th for children living in poverty: more than 1 in 10
