There are a variety of ways volunteers minister to the incarcerated. Exactly what they do depends on the facility and the program in which they serve. Some examples are:
- Attending Mass with inmates
- Sharing scripture in a small group
- Reading and discussing the catechism with inmates
- Visiting with an inmate once a month
- Visiting men in the infirmary
- Being a catechist or a sponsor in the RCIA process
- Leading a Liturgy of the Word or a Communion Service for inmates
- Writing to inmates
