Forming a Parish RLSJ Committee
The A-R-T of Justice & Peace for Parishes
This workshop will orient people to parish justice & peace/social ministry. Participants learn to reflect on social issues and formulate appropriate responses. The session focuses on Catholic social teaching, the importance of justice & charity, and the A-R-T process (i.e., Act, Reflect, & Transform). [two hours]
Organizing a Social Justice Committee
Starting a successful parish Justice & Peace/Social Ministry Committee isn’t easy. This workshop
identifies the steps in forming a committee, what has worked in other parishes, and resources to help prepare committee members and the parish community for this important work. [one hour]
Parish Respect Life Ministry
This session will help those in Respect Life Ministry. It will focus on the four key elements that the U.S. Bishops identify in their Pastoral Plan for Pro-Life Activities -- public education on the sanctity of human life, pastoral care for vulnerable persons, public policy advocacy, and prayer & worship. [one hour]
Rachel’s Vineyard: A Ministry of Hope
During this session participants will learn about the reality of post abortion stress ( PAS) and will be given the tools to encourage others to seek reconciliation. An inspiring history on the ministry of Rachel’s Vineyard is explored along with an explanation on how to become involved in this ministry of hope. This session also includes a moving witness talk given by an abortion survivor who found true healing in Rachel’s Vineyard. [ one hour]
Becoming a Fair Trade Parish
Fair Trade is an organized social movement and market-based approach to alleviating global poverty and promoting sustainability. The movement advocates the payment of a fair price as well as social and environmental standards in areas related to the production of a wide variety of goods. This is an interactive experience and participants will leave with a better understanding of global trade practices and ways to tip the scales towards justice.[ one hour ]
Faithful Citizenship
What does the Church teach about politics? The Gospel of Life
This presentation summarizes Pope John Paul II’s 1995 encyclical letter, The Gospel of Life, the issues in that document, and the Holy Father’s challenge to build a culture of life. [two hours]
