To assist through time, talent and resources for youth discerning God’s call, and for those who have responded to God’s call
One of the essential elements of support is demonstrating respect, gratitude, and love for those who have accepted the call to religious life and priesthood and those who are discerning God’s call. Priests, religious, seminarians and novices need to know, on a human level, their commitment to God has value. As with anything of “value”, there is also a personal investment of our energy. Encouraging with our own talents and skills assists religious and priests and demonstrates support for the efforts of building up the Kingdom. In utilizing our talents, driven by our faith and shared vision, we show priests and religious that they are not alone in their mission to serve God. Our “investment in their vision” gives their vocation stronger meaning, deeper value, and greater joy. For ways to support vocations or just to say thanks for one who has responded to God's call, please read below.
Join a local Serra Club
Our local Serrans pray for an increase to vocations to the priesthood and religious life in our diocese. In addition they support our current seminarians and vocations to religious orders through their many activities. For more information about our Serra Clubs, click here.
Christmas Call to Sharing
Each year the Christmas Call to Sharing provides our diocesan family an opportunity to support the Priests Retirement and Education Fund through a special collection at Christmas. In the weeks leading up to that Christmas collection, the seminarians for the Diocese of Wichita present a short, scripted pulpit talk thanking people for supporting them while they are discerning their vocation and being formed as the future priests for our diocese. Normally a seminarian would speak at his home parish. If your parish would like to request a specific seminarian, please e-mail the Office of Vocations.
Financial Support for Seminarians
Individuals and groups can support vocations gifts of cash, bequests, IRA gifts, charitable gift annuities, seminary burses, charitable trusts, etc. For more information about any of these gift types, please contact the Office of Development and Planned Giving at 316-269-3917 or email.
Vocations Recognition Breakfast or DinnerYour parish vocation prayer team could hold an annual vocation breakfast or dinner with displays about priests and sisters serving in the diocese. Then, have a speaker and/or film to help parishioners become more aware the little things each of us can do to promote vocations. Some resources are available from the Office of Vocations. Click here for more information.
