Catholic Charities, a diocesan ministry, will offer a series of healthy marriage and relationship workshops for individuals and couples beginning Jan. 22 in Pittsburg.
The workshops, “Within My Reach” and “Within Our Reach,” are available through the Marriage for Keeps program, designed to strengthen the romantic relationships and marriages of Kansans.
“Our relationship education and marriage enrichment workshops aim to positively change the lives of all participants,” said Melissa Grelinger, Catholic Charities’ interim executive director.
“Pittsburg area individuals and couples who join these sessions will learn concrete steps to enrich their relationships. For example, spending more one-on-one time with one another as a couple to strengthen bonds, working together to improve family and financial stability, and learning healthy methods to resolve conflict are actions that will improve any couple’s relationship.”
The “Within My Reach” workshops will teach skills to help those who are single, dating, or considering marriage succeed in romantic relationships. Participants will take part in interactive discussions around problem solving, relationship expectations and teamwork to equip them with the necessary tools to lead more satisfying relationships.
The workshops will also help couples learn how to communicate effectively, work as a team to solve problems, manage conflicts, and preserve and enhance commitment and friendship. Additional workshops will be offered in 2013, including the “Within Our Reach” workshop for couples, beginning March 9.
Pittsburg’s relationship education workshops are a part of a $1.4 million grant Catholic Charities of Kansas received from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, and Office of Family Assistance in 2011 to provide free relationship education workshops and services to meet family needs throughout Kansas.
