In response to the growing Hispanic population in Wichita’s Planeview area, St. Margaret Mary Parish is expanding its evangelization to the neighborhood under the direction of Sister María Teresa Pacheco and Father Eric Weldon, St. Margaret Mary’s pastor.
Sister María Teresa visits Planeview twice a week and has been warmly received by the Hispanic community.
She found so many needs in the community, especially for evangelization, she initially visited door-to-door, inviting families to participate in formation programs, and getting to know them and their needs. She has already visited 100 families.
Sister Maria Teresa has scheduled a Bible Study Thursday, Feb. 23, in the Planeview a mobile home complex as part of her evangelization effort. She is planning to offer other activities, such as, catechesis, in-home Stations of the Cross, a couples retreat before Holy Week, apologetics classes, and a Bible enthronement.
According to the U.S. Census report, between 2000 and 2010 there was a 59 percent increase in the Hispanic population in Kansas, that is more than one Hispanic for every 10 residents in Kansas.
