STA to host traditional blessing of the baskets

A traditional Easter Blessing of the Baskets will be held at 10 a.m. Holy Saturday, April 3, in the Social Room at St. Thomas Aquinas.
Those who wish to participate are asked to bring baskets of food to be blessed and an ethnic treat to share afterward. Coffee and juice will be provided.
It is a custom in many European countries to make the first meal of Easter using the blessed food.

Card shower planned for Lucille K. Ricke

A card shower is planned for Lucille K. Ricke’s 90th birthday May 5.
Mrs. Ricke has been a member of Christ the King Parish, Wichita, for over 50 years.

Divine Mercy Sunday afternoon service at St. Francis of Assisi, St. Cecilia, Haysville

Two Wichita area parishes are planning Divine Mercy Sunday services.
St. Francis of Assisi in Wichita will celebrate a special Divine Mercy service April 11. The Rosary will be prayed at 2:30 p.m., the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3 p.m., followed by a Mass.
St. Cecilia is planning a brief service at 3 p.m. It will consist of benediction, a chaplet, and songs.

Musician, Franciscan Father Stan Fortuna to perform at Magdalen Parish, Wichita, April 15

WICHITA – Father Stan Fortuna will be in concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at the Church of the Magdalen.
Fr. Fortuna is one of the eight original members of the Community of Franciscan Friars of the Renewal. He has been involved with community development and the implementation of various social programs in the South Bronx for over two decades when the religious order was established by John Cardinal O’Connor in 1987. That same year, Fr. Stan founded his non-profit company, Francesco Productions, mixing music and message with proceeds going to help poor and impoverished families in the area.

St. Jude hosting pro-life breakfast April 11

WICHITA – St. Jude Knights of Columbus are serving a Pro-Life Breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, April 11, at the St. Jude Parish Hall.
On the menu will be eggs, hash browns, pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice.  The cost is a donation.

Sacred Heart, Ark City, hosting ‘Spring Stampede’ April 10

ARKANSAS CITY – Sacred Heart Catholic School is hosting its first Spring Stampede Saturday, April 10. A barbecue dinner will be served at the event, and silent and live auctions will be held.
