Office of Stewardship

Stewardship is a

grateful response to

God's love.

Based in Scripture,

all that we are and

all that we have flows

from God as gift.

In turn, we serve

as stewards of our

spiritual and material

gifts and we share

these gifts in love

of God and neighbor.

As each one has received a gift,

use it to serve one another as good

stewards of God's varied grace."  ~ 1 Peter 4:10

“Stewardship: Recognizing and Receiving God's Gifts”

Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

The readings today remind us that God is the source of all we have and God’s kingdom should be our foremost destination.  In the first reading we hear that man can barely understand earthly things and, without God’s help, is unable to grasp heavenly things.  In the second reading Paul made himself an example of humility by allowing Onesimus to return to the household of his master.  Jesus tells us in the Gospel that to be his disciple we must not cherish anyone or anything more than God.  When we compare our life on earth to the promise of eternal life may we choose to live for heaven.

Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Mercy and rejoicing!  God shows mercy to the Israelites at the request of Moses at Mount Sinai.  Paul calls himself an example of God’s mercy by the forgiveness he received for his persecutions of the first Christians.  Jesus went a step further and asked Paul to help spread the Gospel.  Jesus tells us three parables to paint a picture of the joy in heaven when a sinner renounces his evil ways and turns back to God.  May we likewise have mercy on those who wrong us and rejoice with those who return to the Lord.

Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In today’s readings we hear lessons about our relationships with our fellow man.  Amos warns the Israelites that their quest for profits at the expense of honesty and observance of the law will not be forgotten by God.  Jesus also warns that we should use the gifts entrusted to us in accord with the will of God.  Our level of gratitude and prudence will be evident when we face the final accounting.  May we come to knowledge of the truth through our stewardship.

Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

As disciples of Christ we are duty-bound to be grateful for the many gifts God has given to us.  The first reading and the Gospel for today remind us that satisfying every bodily appetite is not the level of gratitude we should practice.  The prophet Amos gave a stern warning to the Israelites and Jesus likewise warned the Pharisees of what will befall those who seek their own comfort first while ignoring the world around them.  In the same way Paul reminds us that we should pursue holiness.  May we be grateful to God for our blessings and use them to seek holiness.
