STEWARDSHIP NEWS BULLETIN May 2013

The month of May is time for graduations, First Communions, weddings, and other spring time socials. It is also a great time to preach and teach the Stewardship Way of Life.

Here are some ideas:

1. At the Spring Parish Picnic and other parish event, have a Ministry Fair, or modified fair with some booths highlighting ministries that are new or struggling.

2. Send a letter to all the children and parents who are graduating from school, both 8th grade and High School. In the letter thank them for their faithful stewardship, that is, how they "recognized and received" knowledge and now will have the opportunity to "share this knowledge in love of God and neighbor."

3. Give a small gift to the Confirmation Candidates depicting a gift/talent you see in them. For instance, give a bag of chocolate "hugs" or "kisses" to the student that display's charity. Attached a small card explaining how the Sacrament of Confirmation allows them to "recognize and receive" the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, and now through their lives, they can "share it in love of God and neighbor."

4. Pick one weekend in May for Lay Witness Talks. The topic could be how the Year of Faith is helping their family to "recognize and receive" their Faith.

When Stewardship is only mentioned in the fall

at Renewal time, it becomes only an exercise in filling out forms!

Stewardship is not filling out forms.

It is people filling out the Body of Christ!

We are thinking of renting a bus to attend the Annual International Catholic Stewardship Conference in Dallas, TX – September 22-25, 2013.   Interested???? Please share this information with friends and let us know!

“Stewardship Opens the Door of Faith to a Lifelong Journey”

May 5, 2013

The Sixth Sunday of Easter

When we first come to believe in God we begin a lifelong journey toward our heavenly Father.  Today’s first reading describes the beginnings of faith for the converts in the early church.  The second reading is a vision of the journey’s end, the heavenly Jerusalem.  In the Gospel Jesus encourages his disciples to take his words to heart so that he and the Father could come and dwell within them.  Jesus gives us the words of life in order that we may have strength for our journey and a sure guide to lead us to our destination.  May we open our hearts to Jesus and allow him to guide us and bring us peace.

Ascension of the Lord

After his resurrection Jesus appeared to his disciples to comfort them and help them understand the mission he was placing before them.  They joyfully accepted his instruction to preach the Good News to all nations and to bring all peoples to him.  By our baptism we are called to begin a journey of faith that takes us ever closer to the kingdom of heaven.  By our acceptance of Jesus’ invitation to become a disciple we orient our lives through stewardship to serve God and his children.  May our lifetime of service bring us at its end to the gates of heaven.

Pentecost Sunday

As members of the Body of Christ, the Church, we are each called to use our gifts and talents to proclaim the glory of God.  At the first Pentecost the disciples, inspired and energized by the Holy Spirit, were able to speak in tongues and share the message of salvation with peoples of many nations.  St. Paul compares the members of the Church to the parts of the body so that we might understand that our work is essential to the mission of the Church.  Our reception of the Holy Spirit enables each of us to overcome the tendency to sin and live in the love of God.  May our lifetime be a journey of faith toward the Lord.

Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

Today the readings declare the glory and unity of the Holy Trinity.  Our journey begins in this world but faith directs us onward to the kingdom of heaven.  Throughout our lives the Spirit comes to us to show the way to the Father.  Jesus’ promises are fulfilled in us when we accept his love and seek to do the will of God.  May our journey of faith in God be strengthened through the gift of the Holy Spirit.
