What benefits can I expect as an employee of the Catholic Diocese of Wichita?

Benefit administration for the health, life insurance, disability, and section 125 Flexible Benefit Plan is provided through Mutual Assurance Administrators and linked to the preferred health care network of Via Christi Health Systems. Administration of the retirement plan is provided by NestEgg Consulting Inc.

It is the policy of the Catholic Diocese of Wichita that salary or bonus not be given in lieu of benefits. Benefits are provided for the health and welfare of employees and their families. Pay in lieu acts as an enticement away from participation and could contribute to employees going without insurance coverage. Additionally, participation by employees in health insurance is discretionary, and therefore is not considered part of the employee’s taxable compensation.

GROUP HEALTH INSURANCE Diocese of Wichita Lay Benefit Plan
All full time employees working 30 hours per week or more are eligible. For those employees with less than 15 years of service to the diocese 60% of the premium is paid by the employer, for those with more than 15 years of service 75% is paid by the employer, and employees with 25 or more years of service 90% is paid by the employer.

GROUP LIFE AND DEPENDENT LIFE INSURANCE
All full time employees working 30 hours per week or more are eligible. The employer pays group life coverage for the employee. Dependent life coverage for the family is available for $1.44 per month (paid by the employee).

LONG TERM DISABILITY INSURANCE
All full time lay employees working 30 hours per week or more are eligible. The employer pays premiums.

DIOCESAN RETIREMENT PROGRAM
All lay employees are eligible to contribute to the plan at the beginning of the first plan quarter following their date of employment. Employer matching will begin following twelve consecutive months of employment in which the employee works at least 1,000 hours.

CAFETERIA PLAN UNDER SECTION 125 of the internal revenue code.
All full time employees are eligible for participation in the section 125 plan.
The plan allows for pre tax withholding from gross salary for the following deductions:

1. Health insurance premium.
2. Health care spending account allows you to set aside pre tax dollars for health care cost that are not covered through health insurance.
3. Dependent care spending account allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars for dependent or childcare.

DENTAL HEALTH CARE PLAN
Included in the lay health benefit plan (see plan design summary). All full time employees are eligible for this coverage. The cost is included in the premium of the health plan.

PRESCRIPTION COVERAGE
Included in the lay health benefit plan (see plan design summary). All full time employees are eligible for this coverage.

WORKERS COMPENSATION INSURANCE
Each parish, school, or institution within the Catholic Diocese of Wichita maintains workers compensation coverage for all employees. This coverage is provided at no cost to the employee. Workers compensation insurance is a mandated coverage for accidents and injuries that may occur in the course of the employe's duties.

UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION
As a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit church organization the Catholic Diocese of Wichita is exempt from participation in the Federal and State unemployment compensation pools. Terminated Workers, however, are not prevented from filing for unemployment compensation.
