Sister Charlotte Rohr died at 11:20 Monday morning, Jan. 26, at the Wichita Center in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 93. Seventy-seven of her years were lived as a professed Adorer of the Blood of Christ.

Sister Augusta Pfannenstiel, ASC, dies

pfannenstielaSister Augusta Pfannenstiel, ASC, died Thursday afternoon, January 8, 2009 at the ASC Wichita Center in Wichita. She was 88 and a professed Adorer of the Blood of Christ for 71 years.
She was born August 28, 1920, the eighth child of Francis and Rosa (Kronewitter) Pfannenstiel. She was baptized the next day at Sacred Heart Church, Ness City, Kansas, and named after the saint of the day of her birth, St. Augustine.
She attended a one-room country school for two years until Sacred Heart School opened where she was taught by ASC Sisters in grades three to eight. At the age of eight she decided to become an Adorer following the example of her sister, Sister Loyola, and other ASC sisters. After she graduated from St. John’s Academy, she entered the Wichita convent on September 3, l935. She professed first vows on August 10, 1937.

Priest recalled as spiritual patriarch who influenced faith of many

-- Father Richard John Neuhaus was a spiritual patriarch whose "priestly and fatherly soul generated sons to the order of grace and begat many who labor even now to make his beloved America a morally great nation," according to Father Raymond J. de Souza.
He made the comments in his homily at the standing-room-only funeral Mass for Father Neuhaus Jan. 13 at Immaculate Conception Church in New York.
Father Neuhaus, a former Lutheran minister who became a Catholic priest and ardent defender of church teaching on life issues, died Jan. 8 after a recurrence of cancer. He was 72 and was a parochial vicar at Immaculate Conception.

Father James S. Wilkinson dies

When Father James S. Wilkinson began Mass as a visiting priest, ears perked up to his resonant, refined British accent. It reflected his personality, a gentleman priest known by his parishioners as a man generous with his time and his love.
Father James S. Wilkinson, 91, the founding pastor of St. Anne Parish, Wichita, died on New Year’s Day in England. He had been a priest for 66 years.
A Memorial Mass was scheduled for  11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, in St. Elizabeth Chapel of the Catholic Care Center, Wichita. Funeral services for Fr. Wilkinson were planned for Monday, Jan. 12, in Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, England. Burial was in England.

Sister Louise dies in car accident

Sister Louise Hermann, 77, an Adorer of the Blood of Christ, died on Nov. 29, as a result of injuries from an automobile accident on Wednesday, Nov. 26 in Pratt. Sr. Louise was a professed Adorer of the Blood of Christ for 59 years.
Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 2 with the Rev. Tom Welk as celebrant and homilist. Burial in the community cemetery followed.

Father James Kelly dies in Wichita at 98

Father James Kelly, 98, a retired priest of the Diocese of Dodge City, died Dec. 9, 2008, at the Catholic Care Center in Wichita.
Bishop Ronald M. Gilmore presided at the funeral Mass with the Most Rev. Michael O. Jackels, bishop of Wichita, at St. Elizabeth Chapel in the Catholic Care Center. Concelebrating the liturgy were Monsignors Patrick Leahy and Brian Moore; and Fathers Gilbert Herrmann, Frank Jordan, Eugene Kenny, Lisle Pottorff, Robert Baker, John Strasser, and Wesley Schawe. Burial was in Ascension Cemetery. Memorials can be sent to the Ann and Virgil Dechant Foundation at P.O. Box 137, Dodge City, KS 67801.
