Sr. Mary Johnellen Garrity dies Jan. 8

Sister Mary Johnellen Garrity, who taught at Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School in Wichita from 1981 to 1994, died Monday, Jan. 8, in Dubuque, Iowa. She was a member of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary for 72 years.
She also taught in secondary schools in Dubuque and Chicago, and elementary schools in Chicago and in Hempstead and Bellerose, N.Y.
Sister Mary Johnellen was born in Chicago on Jan. 11, 1927, to John Joseph and Mary Ellen Lonergan Garrity. She entered the BVM congregation Sept. 8, 1945, from St. Andrew Parish in Chicago. She professed first vows on March 19, 1948, and final vows on Aug. 15, 1953.
