Sister of Charity Eileen Gallen, 94, died March 31, at Marian Hall in Dubuque, Iowa. Burial was in the Mount Carmel cemetery.
Sister Eileen was principal of St. Thomas Aquinas school from 1965 to 1970. She also taught elementary school in Des Moines, Iowa; Chicago, Ill.; San Francisco and Petaluma, Calif.; Kauai, Hawaii; and Tucson, Ariz. For many years, she was principal and superior, registrar and part-time library assistant in Phoenix, Ariz.
She was born in San Francisco on Sept. 3, 1917, to James and Mary Brerton Gallen. She entered the Sisters of Charity, BVM congregation on Sept. 8, 1935, from St. Paul Parish, San Francisco. She professed first vows on March 19, 1938, and final vows on Aug. 15, 1943.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers: James, John, Philip, Thomas and William. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Eileen Gallen, Novato, Calif.; nieces and a nephew; and the Sisters of Charity, BVM, with whom she shared life for 76 years.
