Bishop Kemme to host listening sessions to plan for future of the Diocese of Wichita

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
Just one month ago, 16 of us from the Diocese of Wichita participated in The Joy of the Gospel in America Convocation in Orlando, Florida. It was an engaging and inspiring conference for which some 3,500 Catholic leaders from all over the country came together to pray, to listen and to engage each other under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit as we embark on the vital work of the New Evangelization in these challenging times in the 21st century.
I was honored to have been a participant. Now it is our challenge to bring about a renewal of the faith here in our own diocese. I hope you will join me in making that happen.
To that end, I would like to begin by inviting you to participate in one of the listening sessions to be held over the next several months as a way for us to listen to the Holy Spirit speaking through the entire community of the faith. The listening sessions will be a great grace for me and for our diocese to discern where the Holy Spirit has led us in the past and where the Spirit is leading us now and will be leading us in the next several years. I hope you will choose to participate in some way.
The format for these sessions will be relatively simple. After a time of prayer and some opening remarks from me, small groups will be assembled to discuss these three questions: As a diocese 1) What do we do well? 2) What could we be doing better? 3) What should our pastoral priorities be for the next three to five years?
After ample discussion of these questions, each table will be asked to provide facilitated feedback to the larger group. Throughout this time, I will simply listen to the feedback. This will not be a time for questions and answers or a debate over controversial issues. The facilitator will help to keep us focused on our goals for the sessions.
To prepare for your participation, you are kindly asked to register for one of these sessions by contacting our diocesan Chancery office to give your name and the session you wish to attend. The phone number to call is 316-269-3900. You may also email your registration to winslowt@catholicdioceseofwichita.org.
For those who are unable to attend a session in person and would still like to participate, you can send your responses to these questions to the following address: Office of the Bishop, Diocese of Wichita, 424 N. Broadway, Wichita, KS 67202
You may also email your responses to winslowt@CatholicDioceseOfWichita.org. A link on the diocesan website is also available to take your responses. You will find us at CatholicDioceseOfWichita.org.
It is my great hope that these next months will be for all of us a time to reflect and consider where the Lord is leading our diocese in the next several years. So much has already been accomplished by God's grace and the cooperation of so many, but there is much more to come.
I invite us to open our hearts and minds to the Holy Spirit so that we can respond as we have done so well in the past by deepening our commitment as faithful stewards of God's blessings, living out our stewardship as true disciples of Jesus Christ. "Come Holy Spirit, Come."
God bless you all!
+ Bishop Carl Kemme
