Ministry with Persons with Disabilities

Recognizing that individuals with disabilities have a claim to our respect because they are persons, because they share in the one redemption of Christ, and because they contribute to our society by their activity within it, the Church must become an advocate for and with them.

Mental Health First Aid Certification

Friday, 03 May 2013 10:37

COMCARE will be offering Mental Health First Aid classes in Wichita June 6 & 7 and July 18 & 19.

Mental Health First Aid is a public education program that helps the public identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Mental Health First Aid is offered in the form of an interactive 12-hour course that presents an overview of mental illness and substance use disorders and introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds understanding of their impact, and overviews common treatments.

Those who take the 12-hour course to certify as Mental Health First Aiders learn a five-step action plan encompassing the skills, resources and knowledge to help an individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care. The 12-hour Mental Health First Aid has benefited a variety of audiences and key professions, including hospitals, employers and business leaders, faith communities, school personnel, state policymakers, families and the general public.

Attendance both days is required to receive Mental Health First Aid certification. Space is limited to 50 participants. Registration is $85 and covers the required participant manual. Lunch is not included. To register or for more information please contact Tom Pletcher at 660-7627 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
