  • Who can belong to Harvest House?

Catholics who are in their retirement years are members of Harvest House. Family members and friends are welcome to participate in all activities.
  • Why the program is called Harvest House?

Father Louis Lutz started the program in South Bend, Indiana and called it Harvest House because he understood that when we are older, we are harvesting our life experiences and gleaning wisdom and knowledge that can be nurtured and shared.
  • When did the Harvest House program begin in the Wichita Diocese?

Bishop Eugene Gerber initiated Harvest House in 1989. Since that time, the program has spread to over 30 parishes.
  • What do members do when they meet?

Each parish center decides its activities and programs each month. The meetings provide a good mix of prayer, retreats, socializing, games, tours, lectures, and field trips, picnics, eating out, guest speakers, volunteering and celebrating anniversaries and birthdays.

The Harvest House office provides a monthly bulletin that lists schedules of activities in all the parish centers.
  • Do members pay dues and fees?

Some parish centers have nominal dues or a free will offering at meetings to build a small fund that can be used for gifts to charitable organizations or to send cards to members on special occasions or to provide refreshments for gatherings.
  • What are Harvest House Tours?

Volunteer tour directors make all the arrangements for several bus trips and cruises each year. These trips are available to all members and their families and friends on a first-come, first served basis. Each person pays his/her expenses for the trips.
