Jean Heimann’s third book will be released May 13 – a perfect date for the book. “Fatima the Apparition that Changed the World” will be released on the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the Fatima apparitions.
Heiman, a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Wichita, said she wrote the book because of her Marian devotion which was fortified 20 years ago when she made a consecration to Jesus through Mary, she said in an email exchange.
A Marian example was set in her childhood by her mother who turned to the Blessed Virgin in times of trial. Later, Heimann said, she entrusted her life even more deeply to Our Mother, by becoming an oblate with the Community of St. John in Princeville, Illinois.
“As a child, I grew up in a small French-Canadian town in northeastern Illinois and was well-acquainted with Our Lady of Lourdes. Every day after school I visited the Lourdes grotto behind our parish church and prayed there, sharing my concerns with the Blessed Mother,” she said.
Although she was aware of the Fatima apparitions, she said, she became more intrigued with the Lourdes apparitions.
As an adult she became re-acquainted with Lourdes apparitions by watching EWTN, and after joining the Blue Army, began practicing the First Saturday Devotions and praying a daily rosary.
To write the book she read articles and books about Fatima, met with a publisher representative, and then contacted the publisher about her idea.
“They were immediately interested, but it took several months for them to decide exactly what kind of book they wanted me to write,” she said.
When Heimann found out how much time she had to write the book, several Hail Mary’s were prayed.
Because of a desire to release the book on the centennial of the apparitions and because it needed to go through editors and then to an illustrator, she only had about two months to write.
But, with the help of the Blessed Mother, she did it.
Heiman said her research and writing helped her understand how powerful an apparition Fatima is.
“The conversion of the world and world peace are dependent on our prayers and devotions,” she said.
“It is through devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and her Immaculate Heart as well as through the recitation of the rosary that we will experience an end to the culture of death and obtain world peace. Pope St. John Paul II has stated that the message of Fatima is even more relevant today than when it was first given to the visionaries in 1917.”
She said she also learned of the wonderful miracles associated with Fatima that have taken place since then.
