Pre-marital Education Groups: For six weeks small groups of individuals (engaged couples or individuals interested in marriage) learn skills that will help them develop healthy relationships.

Marriage Enrichment Groups (MEG): a group of five to 10 couples meet for six weeks to focus time and attention on their relationships. These groups are led by trained facilitators to provide proven tools to strengthen marriages.

Family Support Specialist: To listen, support and reinforce tools learned in Enrichment Groups. Provide referrals for resources to assist couples and individuals with identified needs.

Employment Specialist: To provide education and employment resources for participants who are unemployed or underemployed.

History

In 2006, the Marriage for Keeps project began as a federally-funded project as part of the Supporting Healthy Marriage landmark national study. Kansas was one of eight sites nationally chosen to participate. Nearly 800 couples in Kansas took part in the project which concluded in December, 2011. The study evaluated the effects on couple relationships with the goal of ultimately improving the lives of children.

Now, Catholic social services in Dodge City, Garden City, Kansas City, Manhattan, Salina and Wichita continue to offer the Marriage for Keeps project and are working to expand to Pittsburg and Topeka to continue to provide services to help strengthen families by strengthening relationships.

Opportunity to Partner
