KanCare: What you NEED to KNOW!
What it means to children and adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities,
their families and caregivers.
April 13, 2013 @ 1:30 p.m GracePoint Church
9035 West Central
The Advocates in Communities Team (ACT) of South Central Kansas, will be holding a public forum Saturday, April 13, 1:30 p.m., at GracePoint Church, 9035 W. Central, the former movie theater just west of Tyler, on the south side of Central.
Purpose: The forum’s purpose is to provide an exchange of information between important leaders in the intellectual and developmental disability community with those in services, their families and caregivers of children and adults with intellectual and /or developmental disabilities who have long-term (i.e. lifelong) care interests with regard to ? funded by Medicaid.
Promises: Many concerns were raised when I/DD services were to be included in KanCare. A lot of promises were made to assure families of continued services. Less than one year later, many of those promises are already lined up to be broken by legislation.
Problems: What happens when those signing the checks get to choose who is eligible? What supports will be stripped away to save money and increase insurance company profits? Why is it not a conflict of interest for these companies to provide case management, but it is when your day- or residential-service provider does?
Prepare: Saturday, April 13th at 1:30 p.m. at Gracepoint and wear RED! At the end of the event (3’ish), we want all our self-advocates to stick around for a group picture as we ask our representatives to be our heroes and protect I/DD services.
