Speaker's Bio: Matthew Umbarger grew up on a farm in Southeast Kansas. After meeting his beautiful wife, Robin, at Bible college, he was ordained in the independent Christian Churches (Restoration Movement) as a preaching minister and missionary, and took his young family to Israel in 2002 to serve in Beer-Sheva, Israel. While there, exposure to the Jewish origins of Christianity and early Christian literature drew them into the Catholic Church. Matthew completed his graduate studies in Hebrew Bible over the course of his nine years in Israel, before moving back to Kansas. Matthew is an assistant professor of theology at Newman University.

Matthew and Robin Umbarger met in their first hour Greek class at Bible college. Sent out as missionaries by local, independent Christian Churches (Restoration Movement), they brought their young family to Israel in 2002 to serve in Beer-Sheva, Israel. While there, exposure to the Jewish origins of Christianity and early Christian literature drew them into the Catholic Church. Matthew and Robin spent nine years in Israel before moving back to Kansas. Robin is a full-time mother and instructor to their five rambunctious children. Matthew holds a PhD in Hebrew Bible from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and an MA in Theology from Newman University, where he is now an assistant professor of theology.
