New Master Catechists named by school office
Three new Master Catechists for the Catholic Schools were introduced at the Regan Catechetical Institute at Kapaun Mount Carmel Catholic High School on Nov. 19-20. They are Jose Gonzalez, Jean Gengler, and Lisa Carlino Vogel.
Gonzalez is currently a member of the religion department at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School and is a frequent presenter at the Regan Catechetical Institute. He has taught religion at Bishop Carroll since 2002, except for two years completing a master’s degree in theology at the Augustinian Institute in Denver, Colo. Gonzalez is a member of St. Patrick Parish, Wichita.
Gengler has taught religion and science at All saints, Wichita, since 2008 following six years as a religion teacher at Blessed Sacrament, Wichita, and two decades as a teacher in the Wichita public schools. She is a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Wichita.
Vogel has been involved in catechetical ministry ever since she arrived at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School from Benedictine College in 2002, even though her discipline is English language arts. She is heavily involved in youth ministry, liturgical ministries, and campus ministry. Vogel is a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Wichita.

Haysville students host baby shower on Jan. 11
HAYSVILLE – Students at St. Cecilia Catholic School hosted a Baby Shower for Mary on Jan. 11.
Each school family was asked to bring a wrapped gift. After opening their gift at the shower, the gifts were donated to the Gerard House. Gerard House is a home for pregnant teenagers and young women in Wichita.

St. Thomas Aquinas School to host middle school retreat, Feb. 18
WICHITA – St. Thomas Aquinas School will host a middle school retreat on Monday, Feb. 18, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The retreat will feature Mass, skits, talks, adoration and confession for middle school-aged students.
Individuals participating in the retreat are asked to bring something to eat for breakfast after Mass, a sack lunch, and a drink.

St. Jude Scouts ham, bean dinner Feb. 23
WICHITA – Boy Scout Troop 420 will host its 32nd annual Ham and Bean Dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, in St. Jude School Activity Center, 3130 N. Amidon.
In addition to ham and beans, the dinner will feature vegetable beef soup, corn bread, a dessert, and a beverage.
Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 3 to 9. Younger children eat free.
