14-week divorce recovery series begins Jan. 17 at the Spiritual Life Center
Journey of Hope, a program for divorced Catholics, begins Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Spiritual Life Center.
The 14-week support program helps Catholics recover from the emotional pain of divorce or separation and regain hope.
The series comes from a national program that uses a Catholic perspective to help people move past the heartache of divorce to find happiness again. Participants will rediscover their self-worth in Christ and the sacraments.
Sharon Gagnon will facilitate the series which includes the book “Divorced. Catholic. Now What?,” and its companion workbook.
Anyone wishing to attend is asked to sign up early and come in prior to the first session to pick up their book so that they may read the first chapter in preparation.
Divorced? Need help?
The cost for the 14-week series is $60. Scholarships are available. Your advance registration is appreciated. Reservations can be made on-line at www.slcwichita.org or by calling (316) 744-0167.

Fr. Frank Coady to direct retreat about the Mass Jan. 18 at SLC
“If the Mass is the most “perfect form of prayer,” according to Pope Paul VI, then why don’t I get more out of it? It seems routine and dull!”
Father Ken Van Haverbeke, director of the Spiritual Life Center, said, “Hearing such things are not uncommon. The sad thing is priests hear such things from not children, but adults!”
A weekend retreat experience scheduled for Jan. 18-20 can change such perceptions of the Mass, Fr. Van Haverbeke said, making it a more prayerful and fuller experience for all who attend. “A Sacrifice of Praise: Learning to Pray the Mass” will focus on what we are really doing at Mass, how to do it more effectively, and what we can expect to get out of doing it that way.
Fr. Frank Coady from the Diocese of Salina will lead the retreat.
“Fr. Coady has abundant experience in teaching and in liturgy,” said Fr. Van Haverbeke. “Having served in numerous roles in his diocese and published several articles about the liturgy, he will be a wealth of knowledge on a retreat such as this one.”
The early bird registration cost is $145 for single occupancy and $120 per person for double occupancy. To receive the early bird rate, register and pay by Monday, Jan. 7.
