A statewide novena to end abortion in Kansas begins today Sept. 7, the Vigil of the Birth of Mary, and ends on Sept. 15, Our Lady of Sorrows.
Catholics throughout the state are asked to pray, fast, participate in a holy hour, attend Mass, and pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and the Seven Sorrows Rosary.
Here are directions to pray the Seven Sorrows Rosary:
On regular rosary beads, meditate on each of Mary’s seven sorrows, using two extra decades.
The seven sorrows: 1. Simeon’s Prophecy 2. Flight into Egypt 3. Joseph and Mary’s Search for Jesus 4. Mary Meets Jesus on the Way to Calvary 5. Mary at the Foot of the Cross 6. Jesus placed in His Mother’s Arms 7. Jesus Placed in the Tomb.
The novena prayer: “Lord God, we forever consecrate our State of Kansas to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary. We ask you to close all abortion clinics immediately and never allow abortions to occur in our state again. O Jesus! Hear our petitions. For the sake of the tears of Your Most Holy Mother. Amen.”
If the Sorrowful Rosary is recited fulfilling the Church’s conditions, a full or partial indulgence is granted. (See the Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1471-1479, 1498).
