A Diocesan Catechetical Fair for catechists and youth ministry leaders will be held in Wichita and Pittsburg at the end of August.
The fair will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 25, at Bishop Carroll High School in Wichita. It will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at St. Mary’s Colgan in Pittsburg
Father Jarrod Lies, director of the Office of Faith Formation for the Diocese of Wichita, said the fairs have a threefold purpose.
“We are introducing to the diocese the new safe environment program that is going to be used to train children on how to be aware of their boundaries and whenever those boundaries are crossed,” he said in a video presentation.
The fair will give those attending the tools necessary to teach the safe environment program and how to access all of program’s materials online, Fr. Lies said.
“The second purpose of the fair is for us to be able to learn about online resources, both in educating ourselves in our own faith, as well is using resources inside the classroom.”
He said programs such as My Catholic Faith Delivered as well as different online resources will be presented to give catechists new tools to use in various catechetical venues.
“The final purpose of this is to receive encouragement – to support one another – but also to receive encouragement from Bishop Jackels,” he said. “I truly hope that all of our catechists are able to join us for this event and I look forward to seeing you there.”
