Learn to form leaders on Aug. 11 at the SLC
The Diocese of Wichita is hosting a Parish Leadership Institute for the formation of parish leaders from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Spiritual Life Center, Wichita. Topics will include best practice ideas, understanding of collaboration, consensus building, the role of a council, how to conduct a meeting, conflict resolution, team building, history of the diocese, increasing volunteers, and more.
Bishop Michael O. Jackels strongly encouraged all pastors to send parish leaders to the formation day.
Three tracks will be offered: A parish ministry track for pastoral council members and other ministry councils; a parish finance track for parish finance councils and financial officers for groups such as the Altar Society, men’s club, etc.; and a stewardship track for stewardship council members and volunteer coordinators.
Father John Lanzrath, chancellor of the diocese, will speak about the spirituality of leadership. Mike Wescott and Joe Dellasega will discuss collaboration, working with different pastors, and how to move a committee forward.
Suzanne Dextras, director of Ministry Leadership Formation for Via Christi, will train leaders how to create and sustain a team. Bryan Coulter, diocesan director of Finance and Administrative Services, will coach finance committee members to understand their vital role to the parish finances. And Father Ken Van Haverbeke will explore the role of councils and how to increase participation in the parish.
Want to learn how to ‘build’ leaders?
The cost will be $20 per person, but no parish will be turned down because of lack of funds. Register online at www.slcwichita.org or by calling (316) 744-0167.
