City beautification work day April 28
LOVE Wichita, a one-day ecumenical work day to beautify the city, will be held April 28.
Families, groups, parish organizations, youth groups, or individuals may volunteer for the event.
To register, call the Respect Life and Social Justice Office at (316) 269-3935. The deadline is Friday, March 30. Volunteers can sign up to work on a project all day, or just the morning, or just the afternoon.
Some projects may have time requirements and your selection of projects may be affected by your personal time restrictions.
Projects have been submitted by the City of Wichita, USD 259, the Sedgwick County Department of Aging, local non-profits, and others. These projects include, but are not limited to painting, yard work and clean up, and other jobs.

WIN fashion show Feb. 21 at Newman U.
A fundraiser for Wichita Women’s Initiative Network will be held Tuesday, Feb. 21, in the Dugan-Gorges Conference Center at Newman University in Wichita.
The evening begins with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. A fashion show follows at 7 p.m. Wine and heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served.
Tickets are $25 each. There will be opportunities to win gift baskets and a grand prize from Warren Travel.

Kapaun Mass at SLC
Mass is offered for the beatification and canonization of Father Emil Kapaun on the first Wednesday of each month at the Spiritual Life Center.

Brown Baggin’ it With Jesus Feb. 24 at SLC
WICHITA – The annual Lenten faith formation series, “Brown Baggin’ it With Jesus,” begins Feb. 24.
The series continues on the Fridays of Lent from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. at the Spiritual Life Center, 7100 E. 45 St. N.
Father Ken VanHaverbeke leads the popular lunchtime series to help adult Catholics learn more about their faith.

Sr. Joan to host Lenten reflection
The Catholic deaf community, their families, and friends are invited to attend a Lenten Morning of Reflection from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 17, at the Magnificat Center, 3700 E. Lincoln.
Congregation of St. Joseph Sister Joan Burger will lead the group in a reflection of the theme, “Life, Death, and Resurrection.”
Sister Joan has been involved with spiritual direction and retreat work since receiving her master’s degree in spirituality from Duquesne University. She has been in full time spirituality ministry since 2004. Sister Joan is active in Cursillo, Kairos Inside, and Kairos Outside, TEC, and Rachel’s Vineyard. She has offered days of retreat and prayer for small groups as well as individual directed or guided retreats.
Interpreters will be present to assist in the presentation and discussion. There is no cost to attend but registration is requested. Catholic Charities Cruise Night Feb. 26
The 19th annual Catholic Charities Cruise Night, a benefit for the agency’s Shelter Services, Harbor House, and St. Anthony Family Shelter is Sunday, Feb. 26 at the Beech Activity Center, 9710 E. Central Avenue in Wichita. Doors open at 5 p.m.
This year’s Cruise Night Captain is Freddy Simon of Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers.
The setting will be a Winter’s Evening Cruise of the Great Lakes.

Lenten retreats set for Coffeyville and Wichita for persons with disabilities
The Ministry with Persons with Disabilities will host two Lenten Retreats for adults with developmental disabilities in Wichita and in Coffeyville, but help is still needed to assist the participants.
The first will begin at noon Saturday, March 10, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Wichita, and end with the 5 p.m. Mass.
The second retreat will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at Holy Name Parish in Coffeyville, and end with the 5:30 p.m. Mass.
Lunch will be served at both locations. There is no cost for the retreats.
Volunteer retreat buddies are needed to provide necessary supports to participants.
