Maria Vo, the winner of this year’s diocesan pro-life Rose Poster Contest, said the contest was an inspiration to her.
When her mother told her about the 2nd Annual Prolife Rose Poster Contest, Vo took her passion of art and turned the theme, “God’s gift: Abundant Life,” into a beautiful array of colors.
Vo, a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Wichita, said she considers art as one of her greatest gifts from God. “I use art to perceive everything that is given and offered in life.”
She said the rose in the poster symbolizes love and life. “It is given through the hands of the Almighty. It is what we do with that love that lets it grow in His hands. When we think about roses, we normally think red and romantic. I painted it white to represent light, innocence and purity, just like the birth of a newborn.”
Abundant life is given from God and can be found in God, she added.
“We each have a gift within ourselves,” Vo said. “It is what we do with the gift that makes us grow. It is what we do with our lives that makes the gift truly plentiful and rich, truly abundant.”
